Wessling, Germany, 14 August 2008 – OPEN MIND Technologies AG will demonstrate its hyperMILL® CAM solution, focusing on production engineering, tool and mould manufacturing, as well as medical applications at AMB 2008 in Hall 4, Booth B 51. From efficient 2D machining with automatic feature recognition to safe 5-axis simultaneous milling – hyperMILL® flexibly and reliably produces the widest range of geometries with high quality.
The production of machine components requires a high degree of 2D machining, usually involving a large number of holes and pockets. In tool and mould manufacturing, increasingly complex parts and model variations have to be produced cost efficiently and as quickly as possible. High surface quality is indispensable for the prosthetics and implants required in the medical industry. All of these fields of application have one thing in common: The high-performance hyperMILL® CAM software offers on-demand specialist functions for efficient, reliable workflows with high-quality results. hyperMILL® in production engineering
Reliable, efficient, powerful: OPEN MIND’s intelligent CAM software offers all of the necessary features for time-saving processes in production engineering. From offering all key 2D and 3D machining strategies and very wide spectrum of drilling jobs through to multi-axis indexing, mill turn and 5-axis machining – hyperMILL® offers a comprehensive range of CAM strategies for flexible production, all of which visitors can personally experience at the OPEN MIND booth. Programming with geometry features and saving machining sequences in a database enable largely automated and highly efficient programming for machining.
hyperMILL® in tool and mould manufacturing
When it comes to tool and mould manufacturing, machining of design variations, short delivery deadlines and customer modifications are the order of the day. hyperMILL®’s utilities, such as its Rapid Result technology, are perfect for achieving cost-effective production. They ensure that changes can be made at the click of a mouse without having to reprogram the entire part. This feature is based on integrated automatic functions that independently take into account the changed parameters. This facilitates quick changes without having to start the entire programming process anew – this saves a lot of engineering time, providing maximum flexibility in tool and mould manufacturing.
hyperMILL® also guarantees flexibility and high quality across a broad spectrum of strategies, from 2D to 5-axis, including advanced machining strategies such as HSC and hard milling. For demanding geometries such as deep cavities, high steep walls and undercuts, for example, 3D machining is not possible because of collisions – or it is only possible with using large tool lengths. With OPEN MIND’s 5-axis machining solution, these areas can be machined without collisions with comparatively short tool lengths. Depending on the geometry and machine kinematics, with hyperMILL® you can flexibly select between 5-axis machining with a fixed tool angle, automatic indexing or simultaneous motion.
hyperMILL® in the medical sector
Products in the medical industry can also profit from the high production quality offered by hyperMILL®. In addition to the manufacture of injection moulds for medical products, strong machining process for hard metals that is crucial for the compatibility of implants is also a fundamental requirement to achieve a high surface quality on machined parts. hyperMILL®’s 5-axis technology enables the use of shorter and therefore more stable tools. Improved cutting conditions, less risk of chatter and tool breakage all translate into better milling results. This also reduces tool wear so that machining can be performed with consistent precision.
Milling in 5-axis simultaneous machining avoids approach and retraction marks. The comprehensive 5-axis strategies provided by OPEN MIND’s solution, such as 5-axis swarf cutting with barrel-shaped tools, result in significant reduction in machining time. Furthermore, the precision and high finish of machined free-form surfaces created by hyperMILL® reduces the often expensive and time-intensive manual rework machining to a minimum.
Seamless integration of CAD and CAM for continuous processing and maximum programming efficiency
Other highlights at the OPEN MIND’s trade fair booth are the new and expanded functions of hyperCAD® 2008.1, the CAD software based on the think3® kernel. hyperMILL® is also presented as a CAD integration with Pro/ENGINEER® Wild?re™ 4, Autodesk® Inventor™ 2009, SolidWorks® and thinkdesign®. New features in hyperCAD® 2008.1 include convenient layer management, several selection possibilities for contours as well as model quality control, which allows the checking of numerous model parameters. In the new hyperCAD® 2008.1, several features were also optimized, such as thedisplay options in the workplane, display precision (tesselation) for solids and surfaces, cross-section views, memory-intensive hyperMILL® stock models, and the display of solids or surfaces that were created by curve unification.
